MLB Restructuring Eliminates VP Of Umpiring

Mike Port has lost his job as VP of umpires in a major "restructuring" of Major League Baseball's executive offices. Port, longtime VP of administration Ed Burns, and Darryl Hamilton, the senior specialist of on-field operations, were dismissed as part of what has been described by an MLB employee as a "bloodbath."

The restructuring comes on the heels of the announcement of Joe Torre as baseball's new executive VP of operations. Port's position has been eliminated, and Peter Woodfork, former assistant GM of the Diamondbacks, will have responsibilities as Torre's "point man" with the umpires. Woodfork formerly worked in MLB's labor relations department under executive VP Rob Manfred.

Umpire supervisors Randy Marsh and Rich Rieker have been promoted to Directors of Umpiring.
