NFHS Announces Baseball Rules Changes for 2012 Season

The National Federation of High Schools recently announced its rules changes for the 2012 season. Among the rules changes:
  • Prior to the start of each game, each head coach must now verify to the umpire in-chief that all participants are legally equipped and equipment is in accordance with NFHS rules. This includes verification that bats and helmets are not altered altered, damaged, or defective.
  • Umpires are no longer required to perform pregame checks of player equipment. Equipment compliance is now the responsibility of the head coach. 
  • A change to Rule 1-3-5 states that “No artificial or intentional means shall be used to control the temperature of the bat.”
